Chiari type II malformation

Headache and vomiting. CT was requested to rule out VP shunt obstruction. The patient is mentally retarded

Patient Data

Age: 6 years old
Gender: Female

Several features of Chiari II are seen in this case include tectal peaking, heart shape incisura, tentorial defect and towered cerebellum, slit like 4th ventricle, partial corpus callosum agenesis and large foramen magnum. VP shunt is seen in situ with adequate decompression of lateral ventricles.

The patient had lumbar meningocele operated shortly after birth with placement of V-P shunt
