Hip lipohemarthrosis

Age: 20-25 years

Posterior dislocation of the left hip with a lipohemarthrosis and layering of blood products in the joint space. There was an associated posterior acetabular margin fracture displaced laterally and posteriorly.

X-ray

Initial trauma PXR

Pelvic binder encircles the patient.

Left hip dislocation and associated acetabular margin fracture displaced proximally and laterally. Comminuted intra-articular fracture of the right acetabulum extending superiorly into the iliac wing. Possible widening of the right SIJ.

Case Discussion

Nice example of a lipohemarthrosis in the hip, more commonly seen in the knee.
