Hydrocoele (scrotal scintigraphy)

Case contributed by Dr Matt A. Morgan

Left scrotal pain. History of testicular trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 55-60Y
Gender: Male
Nuclear medicine

Following IV administration of 21 mCi technetium 99m pertechnetate, an angiographic (not shown) and blood pool study of the testicles was performed.

Due to the large amount of fluid within the left testicle, there is marked attenuation of the activity within the entire scrotum. Hence, blood flow and testicular viability cannot be assessed.

Case Discussion

A large hydrocoele was present on an ultrasound study performed earlier that day.
