Esophageal dysmotility - systemic sclerosis

The patient has been treated for systemic sclerosis - rheumatoid arthritis overlap syndrome for more than 30 years. Investigated for swallowing difficulty.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

The distal part of the esophagus is distended and hypokinetic, the barium contrast agent shows delayed passage into the stomach.

Case Discussion

Esophageal dysmotility, dilatation and consequent functional impairment is a common complication of long-standing scleroderma.
