Transient osteoporosis of the hip
Persistent pain in the left hip and thigh. No history of trauma.

Bone marrow edema pattern is seen at the left femoral head and neck, appears as low signal on T1 and high signal on T2. Left hip joint mild effusion. No cortical irregularity of collapse.
Unremarkable right hip joint.
Idiopathic transient osteoporesis of the hip is a self limiting entity of unknown cause, although thought to have a vascular basis and possible overactivity of the sympathetic system.
