Aberrant left pulmonary artery (pulmonary sling)

Discussion:

Aberrant left pulmonary artery, also known as pulmonary sling, is characterized by anomalous origin of the left pulmonary artery from the right pulmonary artery. To reach the left lung, the anomalous left pulmonary artery courses over the proximal portion of the right mainstem bronchus, behind the trachea, and in front of the esophagus to the left pulmonary hilum. In this process, it forms a sling that compresses the trachea and right main stem bronchus, producing upper airway symptoms.
